Packing for Camp

General Packing Info & Tips

  • Pack a day’s worth of clothing in large / gallon plastic bags inside your bag. You can sleep with tomorrow’s clothing in your sleeping bag and wake up to warm clothing to put on.
  • We often have to trek through the woods/trails to our campsite. Please be sure your child is set up for success and able to carry their gear. Suitcases do not work well at camp.
  • Please try not to pack a lot of unnecessary gear that is not on the list. We are always heavily limited on space in the carpools to camp.
  • If you do not have something please email troop46230@gmail.com or ask in the WhatsApp Girl Scout chat. We may have the item to lend in the troop stash or in someone’s personal inventory! Please ask before you buy!
  • It’s important in scouts to make sure the kids do as much of the prep, and execution of things for trips as possible. Please have your child take the below packing list and pack themselves. At this age I find it easiest to have them gather all the things into a pile somewhere and then WITH THEM pack it into a bag while you check it off the list to make sure they actually grabbed everything and the correct things. This is super important! We teach autonomy and pride in new abilities and skills.
  • Please double check your child’s Health Form prior to departure to make sure all information is correct and you have added all medications available that can be administered if needed from the list the Leader brings + all medications you are sending with them. (see Medications below)
  • DO NOT PACK:
    • DO NOT have scouts bring electronics including tablets, cell phones, etc. This is screen free time for the kids. If you have questions or concerns about this please email troop46230@gmail.com
    • No food or gum or other consumable items (outside of Friday dinner and snacks). We are in the woods with critters. If you, for some reason, need to bring food or edible items please give them to Kristin at the time of departure so they can be locked in the car or bear boxes for safe storage. If these items are left in bags or bunkhouses the kids may be visited by vermin or raccoons at night.
